Common Sense

Oath of the President of the United States of America:
I, [insert name], do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and that I will, to the best of my ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States.

The Preamble of the United States Constitution:
We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

There are some truths in this world that do not change. If you drop a stone, it will fall to the ground, water is wet and fire is hot. Now these may seem to be obvious statements to the average person. But to many of our elected officials obvious facts and common sense have become as rare as cheap gas. Recently The President of the United States, George Bush, turned down a bill to protect the American Steel pipe industry. They are being choked to death by cheap imports and will soon close their doors forever, putting more American citizens out of work. The President rationalized his inaction by claiming that it would increase the cost of pipe for the American consumer and that regulating cheap imports from China would only allow other nations to fill in the void left behind.

Hmmmmm? How about a bill to regulate ALL Steel pipe Imports! Yes, George it may piss off all those poor Chinese government owned steel mills. But I doubt if you could really find any American that gives a crap how bad we piss them off.

You have forgotten your oath George. You took an Oath to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution. And who IS the Constitution? We, The PEOPLE of the UNITED STATES, George! We, The People of the United States. Not the people of the United Nations!
Not the Peoples republic of China. How in the hell does anyone in Washington D.C. think that NOT protecting American Jobs and Industries does anything to "promote the general Welfare" of our Country!

As far as costing the American consumer more money when was the last time that anyone saw a new home built in this country with steel pipe plumbing? Oh, about 1960. No, what he meant to say was it would cost the American RICH more money. Because the only thing using steel pipe in any large amount is the construction of big buildings like factories, apartment buildings, & skyscrapers. Or in other words wealthy investor projects. Once again the needs of the many is put on hold for the greed of the few.
